Dieter Darquennes

Born in 1992, Dieter Darquennes is a painter currently based in Hoogstraten, Belgium.
He grew up in an art friendly household which sparked his interest in art at a young age.

Having studied the arts and painting at Luca School of Arts in Ghent from 2010 till 2015, he gravitated towards his main influeces Peter Doig, Gauguin and Munch.
He paints using mainly oil on linen, often with thinned layers of paint.

Submerged in the act of painting, using bright oil colours, he likes to create a world of his own where he often relies on improvisation and intuition. A World that is grand, mystical and vital: influenced by dreams, daydreams, (art) history, music and everyday life. It’s in these subjects he finds most of his ideas and inspiration.
